Koushik - Out My Window (2008)

After a rainy spring break I need a little sunshine. This is a great album by Koushik, an artist who doesn't try to dominate the samples he uses but instead synthesizes and recreates them, all while singing effortlessly over psychedelic samples and jazz breaks.

V/A - Brazilian Guitar, Fuzz Bananas (2010)

Brazilian-psych compilation of rare 60's and 70's vinyl. If you get this compilation on vinyl the interior art is worth the cover price alone.

Marconi Notaro - No Sub Reino Dos Metazoários (1973)

An amazing Brazilian-psych folk album with Marconi Notaro on vocals and Lula Cortes perfecting his playing style. This album also marks the first recording of Ze Ramalho. The album was made weeks after the completion of Satwa, another Lula Cortes album you can find on this blog in the archives.

Lula Cortes e Ze Ramalho - Paebiru (1975)

Lula Cortes passed away today so I'm gonna be posting some Brazil-Psych albums over the next few days in remembrance. This is easily my favorite Brazilian record (My vinyl copy was reissued by Mr. Bongo Records, for those looking to pick it up).

From Wikipedia:
Allegedly, almost all of the original copies of the album were destroyed in a river flood, making it incredibly hard to find. Since its reissue, it has been widely acknowledged as a lost gem of the Brazilian psychedelic movement of the 1960s and 1970s.

Thanks for kickin out the jams, Lula

Jacques Wilson and Mort Garson - Wozard of IZ (1968)

A truly psychotic and allegorical re-imagining of the Wizard of Oz. Post-modern symbolism and Freudianism meat-grindered through an echoing hall of your own self-reflection that, once the record starts, will want to know 'when the drugs are gonna wear off' . A mostly spoken word album backed by Mort Garson with a couple solely musical tracks. Not for the faint of ear

Bo Hansson - Attic Thoughts (1975)

A multi-shifting piece by the Swedish keyboard maestro that retains the cool melodic breaks of his "Music Inspired by the Lord of the Rings" album while bringing in elements of Krautrock, Jazz, soundtrack, and Japanese flutes. Allthewhile avoiding the sometimes-cheesetasticness of 70's progrock.

Mort Garson - Plantasia (1976)

"The overall feel of the album is playful, with psychedelic Moog melodies sprinkled over swinging drum machines and basslines. Basically, the exact kind of stuff you want at your next sci-fi cocktail party, not at your weekly home gardeners meeting. The album was given out free with the purchase of a Simmon’s mattress at Sears in 1976, and as a bonus, came with extensive instructions on plant care. " - James Pants
